Fig & Farro, the vegetarian/vegan restaurant inside Calhoun Square announced on Sunday that it would close May 31. The restaurant opened in the winter of 2017 with ambitious plans to combat global climate through delicious vegetable dishes. After struggling a bit in its early days, a few changes to staffing found Fig & Farro hitting its sweet spot with a beloved brunch, and a family friendly vibe.
The closure announcement on Facebook alluded to the sweeping closures affecting restaurants thanks to the coronavirus pandemic. “With uncertainty of when we can reopen our dining room safely, we have decided to turn our mission of food and climate into a foundation.”
Minnesota’s state governor closed all restaurants and bars as gathering places March 17. June 1 restaurants with patios will begin to be able to re-open, with restrictions.
Fig & Farro continues to be open and serving take out and delivery through next Sunday. After that, the owners will begin building a new foundation to continue its mission.
