On Thursday May 28, restaurants and taprooms who have up until now been operating only as take out during the pandemic are closing today as a safety precaution and in solidarity.
Last night protests turned to riots and looting in Minneapolis as the cities reel from the killing of George Floyd, a black man, by a white Minneapolis police officer. Riots erupted around the Minneapolis Police Department’s 3rd Precinct on East Lake Street last night. Destruction reportedly spread miles up Lake Street and into Uptown. More protests are planned for today in downtown Minneapolis near the government center and in Saint Paul. Meanwhile, disruption and unrest continues to ripple through the cities. A Target in the Midway area of St. Paul was the site of a large group of unorganized people gathering, and the St. Paul Police Department reports other gatherings on the East Side and on Suburban Avenue. In Minneapolis, there are reports of businesses along Nicollet Mall boarding up windows.
These are the restaurants closed for the time being.
