A shining spot of something to look forward to amidst a wave of restaurants closing: Sandcastle will return this summer. The lakeside concession stand operated by chef Doug Flicker and Amy Greeley will open for the season on Wednesday June 3. The lunch and dinner takeaway spot will serve a special grab and go menu built for safe distances, along with wine and beer. Even thought the nearby public beach will be closed for swimming, the dishes can easily be brought to the expansive park space nearby for picnicking.

The restaurant first opened in the summer of 2017 by Flicker and Greeley serving beach friendly foods like hot dogs, fry bread, salads, and soft serve ice cream. An expanded patio along with beer and wine were added later.

Flicker is the celebrated chef who made his name at legendary fine dining restaurants like Piccolo, Auriga, and Esker Grove. He and Greeley have moved more casual in recent years. The couple also owns Bull’s Horn, a neighborhood bar with killer burgers and outstanding fried chicken (also open for takeaway right now.)
