To say that the Twin Cities beer scene has exploded over the past few years is a vast understatement. Since the Surly Bill was signed into law six years ago, making it legal for breweries to serve pints of their own beer on-site, taprooms have rapidly been opening all over the place with even more opening all the time.
This essential list includes Twin Cities breweries that are a reasonable drive from the metro area and currently offer on-premise sales of pints of their own beers. That means we’ve left off brewpubs who serve their own beer plus guest beers, wine, and spirits (including places like Town Hall, Day Block, and Northbound Smokehouse) and also breweries that only offer tours, growler sales, and/or samples or have yet to open an official taproom.
