Glam Doll Donuts

A collective cheer could be heard last week when Glam Doll announced its second more central location in Northeast Minneapolis. The new spot, which should open at the end of the year, will offer beer, wine and an expanded brunch menu. Until then, we'll join the crowds at the original Eat Street location.

A Piece of Cake Mini Doughnuts

It's a food truck that dispenses tiny, artisan doughnuts drizzled with unique toppings. Choose from a baggie of minis covered in a choice of sugar blends, or a Drizzle (a creative line-up of gooey boats of pillowy rings topped with funky flavors like Sriracha honey, peanuts and powdered sugar). Look for the truck at its regular stops in Landmark Center on Wednesdays, at Mears Park on Thursdays, or Rice Park on Fridays.

Hi-Lo Diner

The 1957 Fodero Diner was transported from Pennsylvania to Minneapolis and quickly became the hottest thing in town. Patrons have been willing to wait, sometimes up to an hour, for a seat in the gleaming diner or sun streaked patio. While not technically doughnuts (the menu states “like a donut, but not a donut”,) the restaurant’s specialty- the Hi-Tops- are indulgent fried dough rounds topped with either sweet or savory goodness like braised Korean short rib in the Yum Yum Yum or baked apples, sea salt caramel and creme fraiche in the Minneapolis Bliss.

Mucci's

Chef Chris Uhrich bakes up quirky, delightful creations on the weekends, available from 8 a.m. until they are gone. Often, that is well before noon. Flavors change constantly but recent offerings have included caramel pecan sticky bun doughnut, salted caramel pretzel doughnut and a coffee creme crûlée doughnut. Pick up a frozen lasagna and pizza Montanara for home and you are set for the weekend.

Bogart's Doughnut Co.

We shouldn’t have to say much more than “Nutella-filled,” but we will. What began as a modest stand in the Kingfield farmers’ market has blossomed into a store-front in South Minneapolis and a kiosk in the Crystal Court at IDS Center Downtown Minneapolis. Bogart’s has quickly become the standard bearer on my-turn-to-bring-treats-to-the-office-day. They also has a handy dandy pre-order page on their web site for when you simply can not be held accountable for decisions made before 9 a.m.

This sweet little bakery is the second outpost from these masters of the confections (the original spot is on Dodd Road in West St. Paul.) The adorable cases are filled with doughnuts (and cookies, cupcakes, cake pops and cinnamon rolls) every morning and just happens to be located right by Kopplin's Coffee. It's a match made in sugar rush heaven.
