Nothing reflects Midwestern pride and hard work ethic like the well-worn elbow grooves in a neighborhood bar. Every week should cap off with a beer, bump, Buck Hunter and a plate of unabashedly greasy good eats. These places keep the lights turned low, the walls covered with free beer swag decor and even throw the occasional meat raffle.

The Most Iconic Minneapolis Dive Bars
The best places for dark, day drinking and well-worn bar tops

CC Club
Cheap enough for the rock n' roll miscreants that create the ever-changing soundtrack of late Minneapolis nights. The CC Club opens early every day and serves cheap pitchers of beer alongside proper good bar food.

Matt's Bar
Come for the Juicy Lucy, stay for the cheap beer and comfortable atmosphere.

Dusty's Bar
Whiskey drinks like water inside this Northeast fixture. Note the ancient cash register and the curious booth, a relic from the olden times when phones came attached to walls. Buy a couple of pull tabs to while away the minutes while waiting for one of those famous Dago sandwiches.

Cuzzy's Grill & Bar
Cool since the North Loop was just the shitty part of the Warehouse District. Cuzzy's is dark, comfortable and always the antidote to any work day.

19 Bar
It's the oldest operating neighborhood gay bar in Minneapolis and it still fits like a favorite old pair of Levis. With great pool tables, old school video games and cheap beverages, it's hard not to love this bar.

Palmer's Bar
If Palmer's was a flavor it would most definitely be salty. The bar accommodations are snug, but there's a fire burning out back nearly all year 'round.

Northeast Palace
Despite the name there is nothing palatial about this hipster-free corner bar in Northeast. It's cozy with a neon glow, fried food selection and sometimes there's music.

Tony Jaro's River Garden
Don't come with a drink adgenda, just pick a greenie or pinkie. It's powerful and tastes like it's possibly powdered Jell-O mix and vodka, but the real recipe is a secret. The entire room is dominated by a giant bar just as the drinking gods intended.

The 1029 Bar & Smack Shack
The gin and tonics here are powerful and improbably cheap. The beer selection is full of local and national favorites for just a couple of bucks. Note the bras and shot-up cop car door.
