The Eater Mpls Heatmap: Where to Eat Right Now

View as Map

Restaurant obsessives want to know what's new, what's hot, which favorite chef just launched a sophomore effort, etc., and more often than not, tipsters, readers, friends and family of Eater have one question: Where should I eat right now? What is the "it" (ie, newest) place of the moment?

Thus, we offer the Eater Heatmap, which will change often to continually highlight where the food-focused crowds are flocking to at this very second. This time around, please welcome three new spots: St. Paul's Seventh Street Social, restaurant-within-a-restaurant Union Fish Market, and Eat Street's Eat Street Buddha Kitchen.

Did we miss your personal favorite hot, new restaurant? By all means, let us know in the comments or email the tipline.

Broders' T3RZO Vino Bar

The ever-expanding Broders' empire takes over another corner of 50th and Penn with Terzo Vino Bar. It's got a 1,000-bottle, all-Italian wine cellar, 40-50 wines by the glass, 10 taps, and a menu of small plates, including a fried artichoke that looks to die for.

Eat Street Buddha Kitchen & Lounge

Eat Street Buddha Kitchen makes it on the heatmap for its location alone, at the hot, hot corner of 26th and Nicollet. Is the food and drink any good? Can it give "Asian fusion" a better name? It's not clear yet, but it's definitely a spot for food obsessives to...obsess over.

Union Fish Market

Less than a year after opening, downtown's Union (known for its retractable rooftop) has launched another concept: restaurant-within-a-restaurant Union Fish Market. Located in the multi-floor restaurant's main floor, the Fish Market serves a wide variety of sustainably-sourced seafood, from lobster banh mi and shrimp corn dogs to razor clam crudo with buttermilk and peaches.

Umami by Travail

Travail's North Minneapolis pop-up, Umami by Travail, isn't open quite yet (it's slated to open next week), but it makes it on the September heatmap so you don't miss one day of Travail pop-up goodness. The plan is to serve Asian street food; instead of reservations, there will be online ticket sales for seatings (plus some walk-ins on weeknights). The pop-up is tentatively scheduled to be open through the end of October.

Verdant Tea Tasting Room & Tea Bar

There's a plethora of riches at this new tea shop and tasting room: tea, of course, but also a Birchwood-designed menu, Sweet Science ice cream, and chocolates from local chocolatiers The Real Deal Chocolate.

Seventh Street Social

This new addition to the St. Paul dining (and drinking) scene is focused on upscale comfort food and cocktails. Think skillet roasted lobster pot pie, pot roast, and home-baked burger buns, plus an extensive cocktail menu.

The Buttered Tin

This breakfast/lunch spot boasts a menu designed by Muffuletta alum Jason Schellin and Salty Tart alum Anna Berzelius, plus pastry treats from Alicia Hinze, a winner of Food Network's Cupcake Wars. It also serves coffee, beer, and wine.
